NY Wins $4M In Suit Over Electroplating Plant Cleanup

Law360, New York (April 28, 2011, 1:34 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the owner of an electroplating business to pay nearly $4 million to New York for the state’s cleanup of hazardous waste at the site of a demolished plant.

U.S. District Judge Sandra Feuerstein ruled that the estate of Joseph Vazzana would shell out $3.9 million for the remediation of the contaminated site of a former Spectrum Finishing Corp. facility in West Babylon, N.Y., saying the estate was responsible under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act.
