Lyondell Battles BP Ch. 11 Claims Over MTBE Suits

Law360 (April 28, 2011, 3:01 PM EDT) -- Reorganized petrochemical giant Lyondell Chemical Co. on Wednesday stonewalled indemnification claims in New York from BP PLC subsidiaries embroiled in sprawling litigation over methyl tertiary-butyl ether contamination.

While Lyondell is working toward a settlement with the BP entities over the MTBE liability, the company asked the bankruptcy judge supervising its landmark Chapter 11 case to expunge the indemnification claims in the event a resolution proves unattainable.
