Baxter IP Counsel Tapped For Chief Patent Judge Post

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 6:08 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Friday that James Donald Smith had been named the next chief administrative patent judge of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

Smith — who will take over the post on May 8 — will lead the governmental body that adjudicates appeals from decisions made by the USPTO’s patent examiners, serving under the leadership of USPTO Director David Kappos.
