DC Circ. Denies Aera Of Calif. Oil Leases

Law360 (April 29, 2011, 10:09 PM EDT) -- The D.C. Circuit on Friday denied Aera Energy LLC's request that it win back rights to hydrocarbon leases off the California coast that a U.S. Department of Interior official had allegedly revoked for political purposes.

A three-judge panel upheld rulings by a district court and administrative board against reinstating four oil and gas leases Aera — jointly owned by Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC — and fellow appellant Noble Energy Inc. purchased for more than $140 million in the early 1980s.
