Teachbook Ducks Facebook's Trademark Suit

Law360, New York (May 5, 2011, 6:34 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday threw out Facebook Inc.'s trademark suit against Teachbook.com, a social networking site for teachers, citing lack of jurisdiction.

U.S. District Judge Ronald Whyte ruled that because Teachbook does not allow people from California to join the site, California is the wrong venue for the suit. Though he dismissed the suit, Judge Whyte appeared to express support for Facebook's case that Teachbook selected its name to capitalize on Facebook's popularity.
