Groups Ready Fight Against $39B AT&T, T-Mobile Tie-Up

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 5:21 PM EDT) -- Trade and consumer advocacy groups came out swinging Tuesday against AT&T Inc.'s planned $39 billion takeover of T-Mobile USA Inc. ahead of a U.S. Senate hearing on the deal, claiming the tie-up will increase prices and curb competition and innovation.

In remarks to reporters, Gigi Sohn, president of the consumer group Public Knowledge, said the proposed merger was "unfixable" and should be rejected outright by U.S. antitrust authorities.
