CCI Defense Attacks FCPA 'Foreign Official' Definition

Law360, Los Angeles (May 9, 2011, 10:53 PM EDT) -- Defense attorneys seeking to nix charges against former employees of valve maker Control Components Inc. in a foreign bribery case told a California federal judge Monday that the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act's definition of “foreign official” was impermissibly vague.

At issue is the federal government's definition of foreign official under the FCPA — a definition that critics, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, have argued is so vague and applied so broadly that it's unfair.
