US Appeals Relators' Take In $55M HP Kickback Deal

Law360, New York (May 11, 2011, 8:22 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government on Wednesday asked the Eighth Circuit to review a settlement with Hewlett-Packard Co. over alleged kickbacks for federal contracts, arguing that whistleblowers should share in just $9 million of the $55 million deal.

The settlement, reached in August, resolved allegations in an Arkansas federal court that the technology giant violated the False Claims Act by knowingly paying kickbacks to contractors that recommended that federal agencies purchase HP’s products, as well as claims that HP’s 2002 contract with the U.S. General Services Administration was...
