Cuomo Taps Aide As NY Financial Services Regulator

Law360, New York (May 16, 2011, 7:31 PM EDT) -- Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday nominated a top aide and former federal prosecutor to run a new state financial services agency with consumer protection and fraud units.

Benjamin Lawsky, Cuomo's chief of staff and a former assistant U.S. attorney, was nominated to lead the recently created New York Department of Financial Services. The agency, slated to launch in October, is a consolidation of New York's banking and insurance departments.
