EU Raids Shipping Cos. Over Cartel Worries

Law360, New York (May 17, 2011, 12:26 PM EDT) -- European Union antitrust officials raided the offices of Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S and other companies in the liner shipping industry Tuesday based on concerns about a possible cartel or other anti-competitive activities.

The European Commission confirmed Tuesday that it had conducted surprise inspections at a number of liner shipping companies in several nations within the 27-member bloc. The antitrust watchdog said it had reason to believe that the companies might have run afoul of EU regulations that outlaw cartels, restrictive business practices and abuse of dominance....
