US Calls Goffer 'Ringleader' In Ropes & Gray Scheme

Law360, New York (May 18, 2011, 7:28 PM EDT) -- The trial of a group of ex-traders who allegedly obtained illegal merger tips from Ropes & Gray LLP lawyers opened in New York on Wednesday with a prosecutor labeling former Galleon Group LLC trader Zvi Goffer the alleged scheme's “ringleader.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Fish told jurors in Manhattan federal court that Goffer bribed the lawyers to dig up information on deals, including 2007 private equity acquisitions of 3Com Corp. and Axcan Pharma Inc.
