Northrop To Pay Va. $4.7M Over Computer Outage

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 7:30 PM EDT) -- Virginia announced Thursday that contractor Northrop Grumman Corp., which provides technology services to the state, has agreed to shell out more than $4.7 million in financial compensation and operational upgrades over a computer outage last year that impacted 26 agencies.

The Aug. 25 failure of a Northrop hardware component at the state data center, and delays in restoring operations, derailed agency operations and generated unexpected expenses for the state, with the disruption impacting 13 percent of the state's executive branch file servers, according to officials.
