EU Targets Romania In Probe Over Russian Air Deals

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 7:07 PM EDT) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog told Romania on Thursday that its bilateral air service agreement with Russia may violate the bloc's competition laws, leaving only one of the EU's 27 countries formally outside of the probe over similar deals.

The European Commission sent a formal letter of notice to Romania, citing concerns that the country's agreement with Russia might hinder competition between European airlines and force some carriers to unfairly pay extra charges for flying over Siberia.
