Verizon Appeals FCC Data Roaming Rule To DC Circ.

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 10:27 PM EDT) -- Verizon Communications Inc. filed a challenge last week in the D.C. Circuit to a new data roaming rule adopted by the Federal Communications Commission that requires large wireless carriers to enter into data roaming arrangements with other carriers.

The data roaming rule is meant to give smartphone users Internet access in areas not covered by their wireless carrier's network. In the appeal, filed May 13, Verizon said the FCC was overstepping its jurisdiction and that the data roaming order is arbitrary and capricious.
