US Seeks Congress' Help In Fighting Improper Payments

Law360, New York (May 25, 2011, 6:52 PM EDT) -- U.S. officials told the Senate on Wednesday that they were taking steps to combat unprecedented errors in government contracts, but that their goal of preventing $50 billion in improper payments and recapturing another $2 billion by 2012 might require legislative assistance.

The issue has been on the Obama administration's and Congress' radar of late, particularly after the White House Office of Management and Budget revealed that federal agencies had doled out roughly $125 billion in improper payments in fiscal year 2010.
