Beverage Container Makers Settle Patent Suit For $25M

Law360 (November 1, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Continental PET Technologies has agreed to pay $25.1 million to settle a patent infringement lawsuit brought by food and beverage container maker Constar International Inc. over oxygen barrier technology.

In a statement, Constar said it had granted Continental PET Technologies and its former parent company, Owens-Illinois Inc., global licenses to applications of the Oxbar patents.

Constar's patented Oxbar oxygen-scavenging technology increases the shelf life of packaged foods and beverages. It is used to manufacture PET, or polyethylene terepthalate, bottles for oxygen-sensitive products, such as juice, tea...
