DOJ Backs Proposed Overseas Contractor Legislation

Law360, New York (May 25, 2011, 4:23 PM EDT) -- Testifying before Congress on Wednesday, a top federal prosecutor threw his weight behind legislation that would extend domestic criminal laws to all U.S. contractors working overseas in an effort to hold them accountable for rape and other serious alleged crimes.

"We believe this legislation is critically important," Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer, in charge of the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division, told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
