Ocean Spray, Others Sued Over Fungus-Tainted Juice

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 2:25 PM EDT) -- Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. and three food retailers were sued in Illinois state court Wednesday, accused of negligently manufacturing and distributing cranberry pomegranate juice contaminated with a harmful fungus.

Plaintiff James Mihalopoulos alleges that the Ocean Spray cranberry pomegranate juice he purchased at a store owned by defendant Jewel Food Stores Inc. on May 31, 2009, in Skokie, Ill., contained the fungus known as penicillium glabrum, which caused him to suffer from food poisoning.
