E-Mails Suggest Budget Cuts Led To BP Alaska Spill

Law360 (May 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Newly revealed e-mails and reports regarding the management of British Petroleum PLC’s oil field in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska suggest that severe cost-cutting may have led to last year’s massive oil spill, a U.S. representative said on Wednesday.

Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) introduced the e-mail messages at a hearing on Wednesday before the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. The hearing examined whether new regulatory reforms could prevent problems like the Prudhoe Bay spill.
