NY Assembly Backs Extension Of Fracking Ban

Law360, New York (June 7, 2011, 5:06 PM EDT) -- The New York State Assembly on Monday passed an extension of an existing moratorium on new hydraulic fracturing operations until June 2012, arguing that more time is needed to study environmental impacts of the controversial natural gas drilling method.

The ban has been in place since December, when former New York Gov. David Paterson signed an executive order prohibiting new fracking in the Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale until July 1.
