Betting Site Complains To EU About Greek Gambling Law

Law360, New York (June 8, 2011, 1:54 PM EDT) -- U.K.-based online gambling site Betfair said Wednesday that it had asked the European Commission to investigate a blanket ban on betting exchanges in Greece's proposed law to liberalize its state-monopoly dominated gambling industry.

The Greek government announced plans in 2010 to liberalize its gaming market after the regulator raised concerns about its refusal to allow licensed gambling operations from other European Union nations to do business in the company in violation of the bloc's internal market regulations.
