TVA Appeals Red-Level Warning At Ala. Nuclear Plant

Law360, New York (June 9, 2011, 3:44 PM EDT) -- The Tennessee Valley Authority said Thursday that it had formally objected to a rare red-level inspection finding that U.S. regulators issued over safety threats at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Alabama.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in early May decided to step up oversight of the Athens, Ala., plant after uncovering serious defects with a cooling system that would be vital during emergency situations. The regulator issued the red-level warning, the highest rating possible, for only the fifth time since 2001.
