Majestic Star Tries To Escape $16M Tax Claim

Law360, Wilmington (June 13, 2011, 7:28 PM EDT) -- Majestic Star Casino LLC asked a Delaware bankruptcy judge on Monday to throw out an Indiana county’s $16 million property tax claim against the reorganizing company, saying the county purposely overvalued two riverboat casinos at issue for political purposes.

Majestic Star filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2009, blaming its financial woes on increased competition from gaming industry rivals and a recession-fueled drop in consumer visits to its four casinos.
