Dolby Targets RIM Over Audio Compression Patents

Law360, New York (June 15, 2011, 12:28 PM EDT) -- A Dolby Laboratories unit has slapped Research In Motion Ltd. with lawsuits in California and Germany accusing the BlackBerry maker of infringing several audio compression patents, the audio technology giant said Wednesday.

The suits, filed by Dolby International AB, claim that RIM has engaged in intentional and persistent infringement of Dolby's patents for digital audio compression by employing the technology in its BlackBerry smartphones and Playbook tablet devices.
