Texas 1st To Require Fracking Chemical Disclosure

Law360, New York (June 20, 2011, 4:48 PM EDT) -- Natural gas producers in Texas will be required to post information about the chemicals used in the controversial process of hydraulic fracturing, as Gov. Rick Perry on Friday signed into law a bill aimed at greater industry disclosure.

The law makes Texas the first state in the nation to require producers to make public the chemical composition of fluids used in the fracking process, which consists of injecting a mix of water, chemicals and sand under high pressure into shale rock to extract natural gas....
