EchoStar Prevails In Forgent Patent Suit

Law360 (May 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal jury has sided with EchoStar Communications Corp. and found Forgent Network Inc.’s video conferencing patent invalid, marking a rare win for a defendant in a patent case in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

EchoStar, the second largest U.S. satellite-television service, was able to avoid paying a steep $205 million in damages for patent royalties on digital video recorders after a jury in Tyler, Texas on Monday found that the patent held by Forgent is not valid.
