Kia Hit With $40M Jury Verdict In Wrongful Death Case

Law360, New York (June 27, 2011, 7:12 PM EDT) -- A jury in an Alabama state court on Thursday hit Kia Motors Corp. with a $40 million verdict in a wrongful death suit regarding a defective seatbelt buckle in vehicles that the Korean carmaker failed to recall in a timely way.

Attorneys representing the mother of a teenage girl said Kia knew that certain Sephia and Sportage vehicles from model years 1995 to 2000 contained the defective buckle.
