Oracle Calls HP Contract Suit A 'Publicity Stunt'

Law360, New York (June 29, 2011, 6:15 PM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co.'s contract and competition suit against Oracle Corp., which plans to stop development of software that runs certain HP servers, is a “publicity stunt,” the networking giant told a California court Wednesday.

Oracle intends to stop making new software for Itanium, an Intel Corp.-made processor used in some HP servers, and though HP claims in the two-week-old suit that Oracle is breaking a partnership deal with the company, its real concern is that its lucrative Itanium customers may migrate away from the struggling product line,...
