6th Circ. Backs Health Care Reform's Individual Mandate

Law360, New York (June 29, 2011, 4:51 PM EDT) -- The Sixth Circuit on Wednesday upheld the health care reform act's controversial individual mandate that requires all Americans to maintain a certain level of health insurance or face a tax penalty — the first appeals court ruling on the sweeping legislation.

The Thomas More Law Center and four other plaintiffs mounted the constitutional challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, arguing the law fell outside the limits of Congress' reach to regulate interstate economic activity.
