Starr Fights Coverage Of SGS Chemical Spill Cleanup

Law360, New York (July 1, 2011, 12:52 PM EDT) -- Starr Indemnity & Liability Co. sued SGS North America Inc. in Texas on Thursday seeking a judgment that it doesn't owe the company excess insurance coverage over cleanup and remediation costs from a 2010 chemical spill in Houston.

Starr contends in the declaratory judgment action that SGS notified it about the incident more than 30 days after it occurred, failing to meet one of several conditions that would prevent the activation of a pollution-related exclusion in its policy.
