Judge Clears Patent Suit Vs. Microsoft, HP Over Smart-Card Technology

Law360 (November 14, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- A U.S. federal court has cleared the way for a patent lawsuit against Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard over smart-card technology, after ruling that the patent at the center of the complaint is valid.

Microsoft and Compaq, now part of Hewlett-Packard, had asked Judge Kenneth Hoyt of the U. S. District Court of the Southern District of Texas to dismiss the case, brought by smart card company E-Pass Technologies.
