Enviros Win Injunction On Calif. Highway Project

Law360, New York (July 7, 2011, 3:32 PM EDT) -- A federal judge on Wednesday blocked all construction and contract solicitations for work on a California Department of Transportation project to expand Highway 101 through a patch of redwood trees, saying litigation over the plan should proceed first.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup granted a request from a group of conservationists for a preliminary injunction on the project, ruling that the risk of irreparable environmental harm outweighed concerns about additional costs created by the delay.
