Judge Backs Arbitration Ruling In Oil Field Dispute

Law360, New York (July 8, 2011, 6:14 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge on Wednesday upheld an arbitration panel's finding that McGowan Working Partners Inc. was contractually obligated to indemnify Eland Energy Inc. against cross-claims brought in property owners' litigation over environmental contamination at a Louisiana oil field.

In filing the lawsuit in Texas, McGowan argued that an arbitration panel had overstepped its authority by ruling that it must indemnify Eland and its subsidiary Delhi Package I Limited Partners Inc. against cross-claims brought by Chevron USA Inc., Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Onshore LP and Total...
