Del. Diocese Begins Ch. 11 Plan Confirmation Fight

Law360, Wilmington (July 8, 2011, 7:27 PM EDT) -- The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington Inc. brought its reorganization plan before a Delaware bankruptcy court on Friday, hoping two critical settlements — one with alleged victims of clergy sexual abuse and another with pensioners — could withstand lingering objections to the plan.

Forced into bankruptcy in 2009 by a flood of litigation stemming from allegations of sexual abuse by priests, the diocese cleared a path out of Chapter 11 in February when it reached a $77.4 million settlement with 146 alleged abuse victims.
