CIA Flouted Software Licenses, Suit Claims

Law360, New York (July 11, 2011, 3:07 PM EDT) -- Software developer Kofax Inc. launched a breach of contract and copyright infringement suit Friday in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims claiming the Central Intelligence Agency used the company's software after the licenses had expired.

California-based Kofax develops computer software — including the Ascent Capture and Indicius Advanced Capture Suite computer software programs — for which it sells licenses for limited use either directly to end users or to independent distributors that resell the licenses to end users.
