Roche Loses First Accutane Trial, Jury Awards $2.5M

Law360, New York (May 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Swiss drug maker Roche Holding AG has lost the first of hundreds of cases set for trial over its acne medication, with a jury awarding $2.5 million to an Alabama man who developed bowel disease after taking the drug.

The jury in New Jersey's Superior Court in Atlantic City found the pharmaceutical giant had failed to adequately warn users of the dangerous side effects of Accutane since the drug came on the market in 1982.
