Shell Unit Settles Claims It Lied About Octane Levels

Law360, New York (July 12, 2011, 2:21 PM EDT) -- Equilon Enterprises LLC has agreed to pay about $87,000 to settle allegations brought by California that the Shell Oil Co. unit lied about the octane level of its gasoline, an attorney for the state said Tuesday.

Dana Aratani, Los Angeles County deputy district attorney, said the state filed both its complaint and a stipulation of settlement on Friday, though the judge overseeing the litigation had yet to rule on the proposed settlement.
