Palm Strikes Deal In Philips JPEG Patent Case

Law360, New York (July 13, 2011, 12:59 PM EDT) -- Palm Inc. on Tuesday resolved a patent infringement suit brought by U.S. Philips Corp. in California federal court over image-encoding technology.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston dismissed the case after Palm and Philips notified the court Monday that they had reached a settlement.

Palm is the latest company to settle over the technology. In June, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. reached a deal with the plaintiff over the same patent, while Eastman Kodak Co. and others resolved disputes with Philips in 2008.
