SF Threatens To Sue Regulators Over Pipeline Safety

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 2:59 PM EDT) -- San Francisco's city attorney on Thursday threatened to sue the California Public Utilities Commission and federal regulators for allegedly failing to adequately enforce federal pipeline safety standards.

City Attorney Dennis Herrera sent the notice of intent to sue to state and federal officials almost a year after a natural gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno, Calif., killed eight people and destroyed about 40 homes. Subsequent findings have been critical of not only pipeline operator Pacific Gas & Electric Co. but also the oversight of the CPUC....
