Catalyst Sues Life Technologies Over DNA Sequencing IP

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 4:36 PM EDT) -- Catalyst Assets LLC sued Life Technologies Corp. in California on Tuesday, alleging the defendant's Solid System DNA sequencing platform infringes a Catalyst patent.

According to the complaint, Joseph Sorge was the first scientist to recognize that certain nucleotides had previously unappreciated uses in biochemical reactions, and he obtained a patent on his invention in 1999 and assigned it to Catalyst. The suit claims that Life Technologies' Solid System uses Sorge's invention and seeks unspecified damages.
