Medicis Seeks To Block Generic Loprox Shampoo

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 3:47 PM EDT) -- Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp. launched three lawsuits in New York on Tuesday in an effort to block competitors from producing generic versions of its seborrheic dermatitis treatment Loprox Shampoo.

The specialty pharmaceutical company filed complaints against Nycomed US Inc., Perrigo Co. Inc. and Taro Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. claiming the defendants violated its patent for the prescription shampoo.

The lawsuits allege the three have marketed generic products that infringe Medicis' patent, U.S. Patent Number 7,981,909, titled “Use of 1-hydroxy-2-pyridones for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.”
