Acer Flies Into Cloud Technology With $320M iGware Buy

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 1:53 PM EDT) -- Taiwanese computer maker Acer Inc. on Thursday announced its $320 million acquisition of cloud-computing company iGware Inc. as the hardware giant looks to expand into software and services development.

Acer plans to build on iGware’s platform to develop its own cloud infrastructure, Acer Cloud, and the deal signals the company’s evolutionary shift, moving beyond hardware production towards becoming a state of the art services provider.
