Citing Safety, Cuomo Suspends 8 Tour Bus Lines

Law360, New York (July 26, 2011, 12:11 PM EDT) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo suspended the operating licenses for eight charter bus companies Monday after they repeatedly failed roadside inspections.

Cuomo said the New York State Department of Transportation would immediately issue the suspension, and the companies would have five business days to cease operations.

The move follows a spate of tour bus crashes this year, including an accident that occurred outside Syracuse, N.Y., on Friday that killed one man and injured 30. So far in 2011, 32 people have died in tour bus accidents,...
