Energy Cos., Lessors Settle Gas Royalties Suit For $4.7M

Law360, New York (July 26, 2011, 6:33 PM EDT) -- A West Virginia federal judge on Tuesday preliminarily approved a $4.7 million settlement of a class action accusing Linn Energy Holdings LLC and XTO Energy Inc. of violating oil and gas lease agreements by underpaying royalties to thousands of lessors.

U.S. District Judge Irene Keeley also granted class certification for settlement purposes to all those who received royalties from XTO and Linn on gas produced from West Virginia wells from May 2003 through February 2011.
