Ex-Capitol Staffer Asks For No Jail In Lobbying Scandal

Law360, New York (July 26, 2011, 4:50 PM EDT) -- A former congressional staffer ensnared in the Jack Abramoff fraud scandal urged a Washington federal judge on Monday to spare him a jail sentence for accepting a World Series ticket from a lobbyist.

Fraser Verrusio is asking the court for leniency, stressing his upstanding record, young family and marginal role in the conspiracy to pass legislation in favor of equipment rental company United Rentals Inc. A jury convicted him in February of pocketing an illegal gift from lobbyists close to the disgraced powerbroker Abramoff.
