Feds Seek Long Sentence For Trustee in Fraud Case

Law360, New York (July 26, 2011, 6:30 PM EDT) -- Federal prosecutors urged a court Monday to send longtime Florida bankruptcy trustee Marika Tolz to prison for more than 15 years for misappropriating more than $16 million from cases she oversaw and losing — or possibly pocketing — at least $2.4 million.

Prosecutors said Tolz, who pled guilty May 5 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, did not deserve leniency based on her age, 65, or her dependence on prescription drugs and alcohol. Tolz admitted she wrote unauthorized checks from bankruptcy accounts to...
