Bill Seeks Trade Benefits For Asian, Pacific Nations

Law360, New York (July 29, 2011, 6:41 PM EDT) -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., introduced legislation Thursday that would extend trade benefits to 13 of the least developed countries in Asia and the South Pacific, more than a decade after the U.S. extended similar incentives to African nations.

The Asia-South Pacific Trade Preferences Act, or S. 1443, would give the president the power to waive duties and quotas on apparel and textiles made in some of the poorest countries in the world, in an effort to promote economic growth and political stability.
