Settlement Near In VeriFone-Hypercom Merger Suit: DOJ

Law360, New York (August 1, 2011, 7:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice said Monday a settlement was within reach in an antitrust suit over point-of-sale system maker VeriFone Systems Inc.'s plan to buy rival Hypercom Corp. for $485 million.

U.S. District Judge Judge Gladys Kessler put deadlines in its court case against the two companies on hold, after the DOJ said in a court filing that extensive settlement discussions were expected to lead to a deal by Aug. 30.
