Google Says Apple, Microsoft Trying to Sink Android

Law360, New York (August 4, 2011, 12:39 PM EDT) -- In a sharply worded blog post Wednesday, Google Inc.'s chief legal officer accused Microsoft Corp. and Apple Inc. of teaming up against Google's popular Android smartphone operating system using patents as their primary weapons, prompting a pointed public retort from Microsoft.

Google's David Drummond touted the popularity of Android, Google's open-source mobile operating system, claiming that more than 550,000 Android devices are activated every day. But that success has drawn an organized attack from Microsoft, Apple, Oracle Corp. and other companies using "bogus patents," Drummond argued....
