Encore Makes $1M Deal With Fla. AG Over Deceptive Fees

Law360, New York (August 5, 2011, 7:43 PM EDT) -- Encore Marketing International Inc. has agreed to repay $1 million to consumers who were automatically enrolled in membership programs and charged recurring fees after making purchases online or over the phone, Florida's attorney general said Friday.

The Maryland-based company is one of many companies engaged in post-transaction marekting, offering discounts or other incentives for becoming club members with Encore, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
